The Scorecard

We grade our own calls, in public, every week.

Every call publishes with a pre-registered metric before the week starts. The following issue grades it against that metric, and a miss runs with the same prominence as a hit. The record to date comes from our three internal June editions, written and scored under the same rules before launch.

This week's read

The Worlds Report - Issue #3

  • Animal Hospital (Anomaly) went from the Roblox #1 accelerator, three weeks running, to its #1 decelerator (down 67.7M new visits) in a single week. But the co-op lane held at 15.0% of new visits, because [AZURE] Forsaken (+26.5M) and 100 Days At Sea (+21.3M) stepped straight into the top-3 accelerators. The genre absorbed its own flagship's collapse inside one week.
  • Fortnite grew a lane its structure works against. The widest-reach island on the whole platform was a social hangout (FESTIVAL CITY, 1,363 unique visitors in 24 hours, more than the top PvP island), and Roleplay/social demand jumped to 5.4% of CCU from 0.8% as the median session lengthened 11.4 to 13.0 minutes.
  • GTA-6 islands came back (3 in the Fortnite top-15 by peak CCU), but the fastest riser among them peaked at 180 and was drawing a 24-hour peak of 8 two days later. The theme is durable and the islands are disposable.

Fortnite Roleplay / Life FN +696% 5.4% share
Fortnite PvP / Fighting FN +14% 58.1% share
Fortnite Horror / Escape FN +24% 7% share
Fortnite Obby / trickshot FN -7% 14.6% share
Roblox Horror / Escape RBX +13% 8.4% share
Roblox Roleplay / Life RBX +9% 16.5% share
Read this chart with two caveats. First, Simulator/Tycoon is not on it because its story is share, not WoW: its absolute new visits held while its share fell to 32.4% for a fourth straight week, and the slide is now decelerating (two 4-point drops, then a 2-point drop). Second, Fortnite Roleplay's +696% rests on a 19-island base, so read the direction (a social hangout took the widest reach on the platform), not the multiple. The Fortnite Simulator bucket is mostly GTA-style driving islands, which is why it can fall to 11.7% while GTA islands rise in the top-15.
Why things work where

Platform demand shapes

The meters show how much of each platform's demand the top worlds already hold, in the most recent week.

Roblox

top-10 share 52.8% top-1 10%

Winner-take-all. The top 10 hold 52.8% of new visits (eased from 54.6%); a game that holds players compounds into a giant, and the median world sees about 78,959 new visits a week.

Fortnite Creative

top-10 share 13.9% top-1 1.7%

Long tail. The median island peaked at 9 CCU on roughly 13-minute sessions; a fresh niche island is viable and disposable, and a launch spike decays in about 48 hours.

VRChat

top-10 share 42.6%

Destination-driven. Occupancy clusters around worlds people return to; favorites act as the return signal, and an update to an older world can re-enter the top tier.
