The Worlds Report - Issue #1

Macro tide: the Roblox tracked panel held roughly flat week over week (1,024 to 1,039 worlds), so this issue's genre shares read as share-of-panel, not platform totals.

TL;DR
  • Roblox Simulator/Tycoon/Idle fell 8.2% week over week (42.6% to 38.6% of new visits) as its two biggest engines decelerated hardest on the panel (Grow a Garden 2 down 106M new visits as the launch spike normalizes; Steal a Brainrot down 21M).
  • Survival/Co-op PvE rose 23% to 17.2% of Roblox new visits and passed PvP into the #2 slot, led by Animal Hospital (Anomaly), the panel's #1 accelerator for the second week running (+119M).
  • Fortnite PvP snapped back 48% to 51.4% of CCU after three straight weeks of decline; the GTA-6 island wave that filled five of the top-9 last week fell to two GTA islands in the top-15 this week (RPG/Adventure down 46.5% off that base).
  • The Survival gap widened: Survival/Co-op is 17.2% of Roblox new visits (rising) but only 0.3% of Fortnite CCU (three islands, peak 67), and no Survival island appears in the Fortnite top-15 by peak CCU.
  • Scorecard: 4 hit, 1 partial, 1 miss. The two calls that did not fully land (GTA and horror) were the momentum bets. Running track record now 14 hit, 2 partial, 2 miss.
The Scorecard

Running record: 14 hits · 2 partials · 2 misses

Last week's six calls, graded against this week's numbers. The two that did not fully land (GTA and horror) were momentum plays; the four that held were structural reads.

  • ✓ HIT

    Build a co-op anomaly/observation loop; Survival/Co-op holds at least 12% and an anomaly title stays a top-10 accelerator. MED-HIGH

Survival/Co-op rose 23% to 17.2% (now #2, past PvP), and Animal Hospital (Anomaly) was the #1 accelerator (+119M). Both legs met.

  • ◐ PARTIAL

Ride the GTA-6 moment on Fortnite, not Roblox (at least 3 GTA islands in the Fortnite top-15 and zero on Roblox). MED

The platform call was right (zero GTA in the Roblox top-15), but only 2 GTA islands held the Fortnite top-15, down from five-of-top-9, and RPG fell 46.5%. The wave receded in a week.

  • ✗ MISS

Don't start a horror/escape build; Roblox Horror week over week stays at or below 0%. MED

Roblox Horror rose 6.0% week over week (Murder Mystery 2 +13.8M, Flee the Facility +8.3M). Horror is choppy, not down.

  • ✓ HIT

Survival/co-op stays an open lane on Fortnite (no Survival island in the top-15 by CCU). LOW-MED

Fortnite Survival was 0.3% of CCU (three islands, peak 67) with none in the top-15. The gap stayed open even as it stirred.

  • ✓ HIT

On Roblox ride a giant or skin, don't build into the middle (top-10 share at or above 60% and no brand-new world cracks the top-10). MED

Top-10 share was 62.8% (at or above 60%), and the top new entrant (Evomon, 21.8M) sat far below the #10 world's 71.5M. No newcomer broke the top-10.

  • ✓ HIT

VRChat: ship a returnable destination, optionally IP-skinned (occupancy stays utility/social and an IP world among the favorites gainers). LOW

Occupancy stayed utility/social, and an IP-themed world was among the week's favorites gainers. Both legs met.

Movers of the week
Survival / Co-op RBX +23% 17.2% share
PvP / Fighting FN +48% 51.4% share
Roleplay / Life RBX +12% 9.1% share
Horror / Escape RBX +6% 9.1% share
Simulator / Tycoon RBX -8% 38.6% share
Tower Defense RBX -29% 1.6% share
Party / Casual FN -42% 3% share
RPG / Adventure FN -47% 2.2% share

Biggest risers: Roblox Survival/Co-op (+23% to 17.2%) and Fortnite PvP (+48% to 51.4%). Biggest fallers: Roblox Simulator/Tycoon (-8% to 38.6%, off two decelerating giants) and Fortnite RPG/Adventure (-47% to 2.2%, the GTA wave unwinding). Week-over-week percentages on sub-1%-share genres are noise off a tiny base, so read share and direction there rather than the percentage.

Arbitrage gap of the week

Survival / Co-op PvE

This is the single cleanest cross-platform gap the report tracks, and this week it widened. On Roblox, Survival/Co-op went from 14.2% to 17.2% of new visits and passed PvP to become the #2 demand genre, carried by Animal Hospital (Anomaly), a find-the-anomaly co-op loop that accelerated +119M new visits for the second straight week at a 95% like rate, plus 99 Nights in the Forest still climbing. On Fortnite the same genre is a rounding error at 0.3% of CCU (three islands, a peak of 67), with no Survival island anywhere in the top-15 by peak CCU.

Why the gap exists comes down to curve shape. Roblox is winner-take-all (the top-10 hold 62.8% of new visits), and a game that holds players compounds into a giant, so a deep co-op retention loop is what that curve rewards. Fortnite Creative is long-tail (median island runs about 6 CCU on roughly 12-minute sessions), and those short sessions churn the audience before a deep survival grind can take hold. The demand concentrates on Roblox, where depth pays.

How a creator exploits it: build a short-round co-op survival for Fortnite rather than a deep grind. Someone did test the lane this week (a micro base moved 16 to 67 CCU) but nothing cracked the top-15, so the niche is stirring, not closed. The observation-driven, non-twitch anomaly hook is cheap to build and returnable, which is the profile a small creator can ship. Point it at the platform that pays for it (Roblox for the deep loop) and ship the disposable short-round version into Fortnite's open lane.

Also open:

  • Obby is 12.7% of Fortnite CCU and 0.0% on Roblox, a persistent lopsided hole that eased below our auto-flag threshold this week but did not resolve.
Platform shapes

The same rotation, absorbed in opposite directions

The same genre rotation hit Roblox and Fortnite this week and the two curves absorbed it in opposite directions. Roblox is winner-take-all (top-10 hold 62.8% of demand), so when the shallow idle-collect wave cooled, freed-up demand did not scatter; it concentrated into Survival/Co-op, a retention genre that can compound into a giant. Fortnite Creative is long-tail (top-10 hold 19.1%, median island 6 CCU), so genres cycle as fresh clones spawn faster than old ones drain, which is why PvP could be down three weeks and then snap back 48% overnight. VRChat runs on a third shape, destination-driven, where demand clusters around places people return to and a category can hold more than one winner at a time. The practical read for a creator is to build to the platform's shape.

Roblox

top-10 share 62.8% top-1 12.4%

Winner-take-all. The top 10 hold 62.8% of new visits; a game that holds players compounds into a giant.

Fortnite Creative

top-10 share 19.1% top-1 2.7%

Long tail. The median island peaked at 6 CCU on roughly 12-minute sessions; a fresh niche island is viable here.

VRChat

top-10 share 36.7%

Destination-driven. Occupancy clusters around worlds people return to; favorites act as the return signal.

VRChat, in brief

Utility and social destinations held the top occupancy tier again: avatar-search tools, video and chill rooms, and sleep hangouts, with social-deduction and horror-survival the only game formats near the top. The avatar-search utility lane was not single-winner this week, with a newer search-and-hangout world gaining favorites alongside the established incumbent. IP-themed fan destinations keep showing up among the week's favorites gainers, which fits the pattern that VRChat rewards places people return to.

Analyst notes

Two weeks, one read. The calls that graded out were built on structure, a genre concentrating and a cross-platform gap staying open on a curve that stays winner-take-all. The calls that broke were riding a surge: horror was supposed to stay down and instead bounced 6%, and the GTA wave was supposed to keep at least three top-15 islands and faded to two. That is the second week running where the structural reads held up better than the momentum bets.

Next week we are watching whether the idle-to-co-op rotation on Roblox holds once Animal Hospital’s launch spike normalizes, and whether Fortnite PvP stays above 45% of CCU rather than draining again. The brainrot aesthetic is the wildcard: it keeps traveling across platforms even where the mechanic does not, so a curve-appropriate version of it is the cheap build to try.

This week's calls

Each call below gets graded in next week's issue against the metric named on it.

  1. On Roblox, build a deep-retention co-op loop (anomaly / observation / survival); demand is rotating from shallow idle-collect to sticky co-op. HIGH

Graded next week on: Roblox Survival/Co-op holds at least 16% of new visits and Simulator/Tycoon stays at or below 40% (the rotation continues rather than snapping back).

  2. Don't chase the GTA-6 island wave on Fortnite; it already unwound in a week. MED-HIGH

Graded next week on: At most 2 GTA-VI-themed islands appear in the Fortnite top-15 by peak CCU (the wave stays receded, does not re-inflate).

  3. On Fortnite, treat PvP ("Red vs Blue" / 1v1) as the durable default, not a genre to time. MED

Graded next week on: Fortnite PvP holds at least 45% of CCU (the rebound was not a one-week spike).

  4. Ride the "brainrot" aesthetic across platforms; the meme is portable even when the game is not. MED

Graded next week on: At least 1 "brainrot"-titled island in the Fortnite top-15 (by momentum or CCU) and at least 1 "brainrot"-titled world in the Roblox top-15 by new visits.

  5. The Survival-to-Fortnite arbitrage lane is still open (the sole engine-flag this week), but keep it short-session. LOW-MED

Graded next week on: Still zero Survival islands in the Fortnite top-15 by peak CCU (the lane stays open for a short-round co-op entry).

  6. VRChat: ship a returnable destination, and know the avatar-search and utility lanes have room for a second entrant. LOW

Graded next week on: VRChat occupancy stays utility/social and at least 1 IP-themed or avatar-search world is among the week's favorites gainers.

Data health
  • WARN The Roblox tracked panel held roughly flat week over week (1,024 to 1,039 worlds, 814 tracked in both weeks), so genre world-counts are broadly comparable again, but breadth is still at the reduced ~1k level versus roughly 2.3k a month ago. Read shares and direction; small-genre counts remain thin.
  • INFO A few single-island Fortnite CCU figures carry an idle/AFK signature (one escape-room island showed 466 CCU on just 9 unique players over 24h), and auto-genre tags are noisy, so read Fortnite genre shares directionally and discount single-island outliers.
  • INFO Both weekly spot-checks passed: a top Roblox world read within about 1.7% of the public API, and a rising Fortnite island within about 1.3% of a third-party 24-hour peak.
  • INFO Fortnite island codes rotate through discovery, so per-island week over week is not possible; genre trends compare the genre populations week to week. VRChat reads stay genre-level (occupancy and favorites momentum only).
