The Worlds Report - Issue #3
- Animal Hospital (Anomaly) went from the Roblox #1 accelerator, three weeks running, to its #1 decelerator (down 67.7M new visits) in a single week. But the co-op lane held at 15.0% of new visits, because [AZURE] Forsaken (+26.5M) and 100 Days At Sea (+21.3M) stepped straight into the top-3 accelerators. The genre absorbed its own flagship's collapse inside one week.
- Fortnite grew a lane its structure works against. The widest-reach island on the whole platform was a social hangout (FESTIVAL CITY, 1,363 unique visitors in 24 hours, more than the top PvP island), and Roleplay/social demand jumped to 5.4% of CCU from 0.8% as the median session lengthened 11.4 to 13.0 minutes.
- GTA-6 islands came back (3 in the Fortnite top-15 by peak CCU), but the fastest riser among them peaked at 180 and was drawing a 24-hour peak of 8 two days later. The theme is durable and the islands are disposable.
- Roblox had a consolidation week, the healthiest data in a month. Simulator/Tycoon ceded share a fourth straight week, but the slide is decelerating (down about 2 points to 32.4%), and nothing else moved more than about a point.
- Horror is rising on both platforms at once (Roblox 7.6% to 8.4%, Fortnite 5.4% to 7.0%), a rare co-movement. Scorecard: 3 hit, 2 partial, 1 miss, the weakest week yet, both breaks on momentum calls. Running 21 hit, 6 partial, 3 miss.
Running record: 21 hits · 6 partials · 3 misses
Last week's six calls, graded against this week's numbers. The weakest week yet at 3 hit, 2 partial, 1 miss. The pattern underneath it is the useful part: both breaks were momentum bets and all three structural calls held, a fourth straight week of that split.
- ◐ PARTIAL
On Roblox, build the one sticky co-op or anomaly loop that can become an incumbent; an anomaly/observation title stays a top-5 accelerator and Survival/Co-op holds at least 13% of new visits. HIGH
Survival/Co-op held at 15.0% (past the 13% leg), but the anomaly leg broke: Animal Hospital fell out of the accelerator table entirely and is now the #1 decelerator (down 67.7M). The lane held because [AZURE] Forsaken (+26.5M) and 100 Days At Sea (+21.3M) replaced it in the top-3 accelerators. The share held; the specific-title thesis broke.
- ✓ HIT
Don't build a shallow idle-collect clone on Roblox; Simulator/Tycoon stays at or below 36%. MED-HIGH
Simulator/Tycoon came in at 32.4%, a fourth straight week ceding share (34.4% to 32.4%). The slide continued rather than snapping back.
- ✓ HIT
On Fortnite, ship a fast disposable island in a default template; PvP and Obby combined hold at least 65% of CCU. HIGH
PvP 58.1% plus Obby 14.6% was 72.7% of CCU. Held comfortably, though down from 75.8% as social took a slice.
- ✓ HIT
The Survival-to-Fortnite lane stays open; still zero Survival islands in the top-15. MED
Fortnite Survival was 0.0% of CCU (two islands, 11 CCU between them) with zero in the top-15. A fourth straight week open, and the gap widened.
- ✗ MISS
The GTA-6 island theme is spent; at most 2 GTA-VI islands in the top-15. MED
Three GTA-VI islands held the top-15 by peak CCU (369, 349, 306), and the week's fastest riser was a GTA-6 island. The wave re-formed.
- ◐ PARTIAL
VRChat: top occupancy stays utility/social and an avatar-search or IP world is among the favorites gainers. LOW
The favorites leg hit: avatar-search utility worlds led the gainers, more than one at once. The occupancy leg broke: a game format reached the top occupancy tier for the first time since this report began, so a game displaced the utility/social top.
Read this chart with two caveats. First, Simulator/Tycoon is not on it because its story is share, not WoW: its absolute new visits held while its share fell to 32.4% for a fourth straight week, and the slide is now decelerating (two 4-point drops, then a 2-point drop). Second, Fortnite Roleplay's +696% rests on a 19-island base, so read the direction (a social hangout took the widest reach on the platform), not the multiple. The Fortnite Simulator bucket is mostly GTA-style driving islands, which is why it can fall to 11.7% while GTA islands rise in the top-15.

The engine flagged one cross-platform gap this week, down from three, and the way the other two closed is the story. Last week we flagged Obby, Roleplay, and Survival as lopsided across the two platforms, and we dismissed two of them as curve traps (thin for a structural reason, not for lack of a builder). We were wrong about Roleplay. It closed the only way a real opening ever closes: somebody built into it and won. Roleplay on Fortnite went 0.8% to 5.4% of CCU and produced the platform's widest-reach island. A genuine trap does not close in seven days, so that one was a vacancy and we mislabeled it.
That leaves Survival/Co-op as the last flag, and it widened into a near-total vacuum: 15.0% of Roblox new visits against 0.0% of Fortnite CCU (two islands, 11 CCU between them, a fourth straight week with zero in the top-15). There is one honest asymmetry to respect: Survival's median session on Fortnite is 33 minutes, the longest of any genre there, on a platform whose median is 13. That is why almost nobody ships it, and why it has to be built short to fit.
How a creator exploits it: build the deep version for Roblox, where retention compounds into a giant, and ship a disposable short-round co-op version (one 8-to-12 minute loop) into Fortnite's open lane. The observation-driven, low-twitch hook is cheap to build and returnable, which is the profile a small creator can actually ship.
The same experiment, three answers
The three platforms accidentally ran the same experiment this week, what makes a world grow, and returned three different answers. On Roblox (winner-take-all, the top-10 hold 52.8% of demand) growth is compounding incumbency, and it is not permanent: Brookhaven can add 32M new visits seven years in, but Animal Hospital just shed 67.7M with no competitor taking it down, because the mechanic that compounds you up decays when novelty is spent. On Fortnite (long tail, median island 9 CCU on 13-minute sessions) growth is a launch spike that decays in about 48 hours, which is why the theme persists for months while every island dies in days. VRChat runs on a third shape, destination-driven, where growth is re-activation: this week a months-old world took the top occupancy slot on the strength of an update, not a launch. So the same word, growth, means launch on Fortnite, update on VRChat, and retention on Roblox. The corollary the Fortnite hangout forces: structure predicts what is hard, not what is impossible, and the openings sit where a genre is structurally awkward but not forbidden.
Roblox
top-10 share 52.8% top-1 10%
Winner-take-all. The top 10 hold 52.8% of new visits (eased from 54.6%); a game that holds players compounds into a giant, and the median world sees about 78,959 new visits a week.
Fortnite Creative
top-10 share 13.9% top-1 1.7%
Long tail. The median island peaked at 9 CCU on roughly 13-minute sessions; a fresh niche island is viable and disposable, and a launch spike decays in about 48 hours.
VRChat
top-10 share 42.6%
Destination-driven. Occupancy clusters around worlds people return to; favorites act as the return signal, and an update to an older world can re-enter the top tier.
VRChat, in brief
The top occupancy tier was mostly utility and social again (avatar-search tools, video and chill rooms, social-deduction), and avatar-search worlds kept leading the favorites gainers, more than one at once. The new note this week is a fishing game reaching the top of the tier for the first time we have observed, and it did it on an update to a months-old world rather than a fresh launch. On a destination curve, an update to something people already favorited is the growth event, and a large share of presence sits in private, friends-first instances, so build the returnable version rather than the one-shot.
Analyst notes
Three weeks we led with a single title, Animal Hospital, as the proof of a thesis about sticky co-op. This week that title went from the platform’s number one accelerator to its number one decelerator, and the thesis held anyway, because two other co-op games stepped into the gap and the genre barely moved. That is the correction worth keeping: grade the genre at the genre level and the title at the title level, and never let one stand in for the other.
Next week we are watching whether the Roblox co-op cohort keeps producing accelerators without its old flagship, whether Fortnite’s new social-hangout lane holds a top-15 island for a second week or reverts like the GTA wave, and whether horror keeps climbing on both platforms at once. The Survival-to-Fortnite lane is still the cheap build to try, since it is the one flagged gap that is open only because nobody has fit a short-round version to Fortnite’s session length yet.
Each call below gets graded in next week's issue against the metric named on it.
-
On Roblox, bet on the co-op cohort, not a single flagship; the lane just proved it outlives its leader. MED-HIGH
Graded next week on: Roblox Survival/Co-op holds at least 13% of new visits, and at least one Survival/Co-op title other than Animal Hospital sits in the top-5 accelerators.
-
On Fortnite, build the returnable venue; the widest-reach island this week was a social hangout, not a fight. MED
Graded next week on: At least 1 Roleplay/social island appears in the Fortnite top-15 by peak CCU, and Fortnite Roleplay/social holds at least 3% of CCU.
-
If you ship Fortnite clones, run a factory, not a franchise; budget for 48-hour island lifespans. HIGH
Graded next week on: Fortnite PvP and Obby combined hold at least 60% of CCU.
-
Take the Survival-to-Fortnite lane; it is the last open arbitrage flag and it is now a vacuum. Build it short, one 8-to-12 minute co-op loop. MED
Graded next week on: Still zero Survival islands in the Fortnite top-15 by peak CCU (the lane stays open).
-
Time a horror/escape build now; it is rising on both platforms at once, which is the rarest signal this report gets. MED
Graded next week on: Roblox Horror holds at least 8% of new visits and Fortnite Horror holds at least 6% of CCU (both hold).
-
On VRChat, ship the update, not the sequel; on a destination curve your existing favorites are stored demand and an update is how you withdraw it. LOW-MED
Graded next week on: The VRChat top occupancy tier includes at least one world that reached it through a recent update to an older world rather than a fresh launch.
- INFO Roblox week-over-week is more reliable this week than last: the mix of games behind the comparison was more stable, so the genre movements are far less distorted than last week and the accelerating and decelerating reads are the cleanest in a month. Read shares and direction over raw percentages.
- INFO Small-base WoW% is noise. Roblox Party (+64% on a 0.5% share) and Tower Defense (+29% on 1.8%), and Fortnite Roleplay's +696% on a 19-island base, sit on bases too small to carry a conclusion. Weight share and absolute; treat Roleplay's direction as the finding, not the multiple.
- INFO Both weekly spot-checks passed, and all three platforms' figures are now cross-checked against public sources. A top Roblox world read within about 0.05% of the public API on cumulative visits. A rising Fortnite island read in band against its all-time peak (161 versus a 180 all-time peak on release day) and confirmed the 48-hour decay directly: it was drawing a 24-hour peak of 8 when checked. VRChat was independently checked against the platform this run as well.
- INFO The Fortnite Simulator bucket includes GTA-style driving islands (tagged as driver-sim), which is why that share can fall to 11.7% while GTA islands rise in the top-15. Fortnite island codes rotate through discovery, so per-island week-over-week is not possible; genre trends compare genre populations week to week. VRChat reads stay genre-level (occupancy and favorites momentum only).
